Valmont pairs Contemporary Pole Aesthetics with Technology in Las Vegas, NV
In 2016, MGM was creating a new outdoor venue for their Las Vegas resort featuring modern light poles along the surrounding streets. However, as their initial pole provider ran into lead-time and budget issues, they partnered with Valmont to complete the project more efficiently and on time.
With the project due date looming in the near future, Valmont’s in-house engineering team hit the ground running. They used the initial specifications to draw a design that featured different combinations of street and pedestrian light fixtures and technical equipment such as speakers, Wi-Fi antennas, and surveillance cameras. To add a twist to the challenge, the project was already so far that some of the pole foundations had been poured based on non-Valmont anchor plate standards. Our engineers were able to factor this into their calculations to ensure the structural soundness and compatibility of all the components. To prevent degradation and gloss reduction in the scorching desert environment, the customer chose Valmont’s V-PRO 30 finish featuring a 3-year warranty. Because the customer wanted to achieve an embedded look by placing the pole base plates below grade, Valmont used a 2-part Chemthane protective coating on the lower part of the poles. With these corrosion resistant coatings surrounding the key areas, MGM can rest assured that their poles are well protected despite the soil and solar conditions.
Thanks to the seamless collaboration between Valmont, Nevada Sales Agency, the lighting designer, initial engineering firm, electrical distributor as well as contractor, we successfully completed the project by the property opening. Importantly, Valmont was able to keep the project within budget with its industry leading in-house engineering resources and manufacturing capabilities. Tribute to the project’s success, the product was well-received and its use has expanded beyond MGM.
