Old Town Monrovia Welcomes Visitors with a Valmont Sign Structure
Well known for its popularity as a location for filming movies, Monrovia, CA was looking to boost the visibility of its idyllic Old Town area with an entrance sign that included its well-known name. Ideas for the sign varied widely at first, but Valmont and our local agent, South Coast Lighting & Design, helped the city create a custom structure that charms residents and visitors alike.
Since most people arrived to Old Town Monrovia via car through the central Myrtle Avenue, it was natural that the structure would be placed along this street. The local developers, architects and Chamber of Commerce exchanged a range ideas and designs with Valmont, and our in-house professional engineers consulted the client regarding structural choices and feasibility. The structure was made of a combination of straight round and fluted steel poles to ensure maximum strength, and the shape, lettering as well as pole bases were tailored to the customer’s requirements. As a final touch, each part of the structure was galvanized and finish painted for enhanced resistance to corrosion and LED lighting was added below the lettering for improved nighttime visibility.
Thanks to Valmont’s custom engineering capabilities, the final sign design blends seamlessly with the existing pedestrian poles and broader environment. At the end, Valmont kept the project within budget and timeline, which the city rewarded with a hearty “thank you” for work well done.
