Valmont Illuminates Colorado Avenue in Santa Monica, CA
When the City of Santa Monica, CA sought to enhance the Colorado Avenue streetscape, they wanted the street to stand out as a bright entrance to the Santa Monica Pier. With custom design requirements for light poles, the project posed an exceptional challenge that Valmont was ready to overcome.
The city envisioned a string light solution that would extend for three blocks from a new light-rail station to the pier. After receiving the initial pole design from the customer, Valmont’s engineering team optimized the pole size to fit the project criteria. Additionally, since the strings had the potential to inhibit fire fighters from raising ladders during an emergency, our engineers created a custom designed quick release system for the light fixtures. As a result, the system enables rescuers to detach the strings quickly when needed. For poles, the customer selected Valmont’s popular DS210, and for added impressiveness, they chose a yellow V-PRO finish that increases corrosion resistance and features a 3-year warranty.
While there were other pole companies interested in this project, Santa Monica chose Valmont because of our responsiveness to their custom engineering and design requests as well as guidance that helped them eliminate unnecessary costs. Finally, Valmont delivered all 84 poles on time and within budget.
