Bay Bridge Brings Concept to Reality
The Oakland Bay Bridge project highlights Valmont’s ability to bring a concept to reality while maintaining a time-tested level of product quality. The Valmont Structures team was a cross-functional group from various disciplines within the company whose ease of doing business with the customer and inspectors lent to the success of the project. Today, Valmont’s custom manufacturing capabilities stand on display with over 250 poles which line the bridge connecting San Francisco and Oakland.
Key Features:
- Pentagon-shaped tapered poles up to 67’ tall.
- Channel welded in the center to support up to seven light fixtures.
- Up to 1.75” thick base section to mitigate fatigue.
- Teflon-like coated plates provided by Applied Coating Technology to withstand the Bay’s windy humid conditions and potential for earthquakes.
- Galvanized coating buffed then painted to create a smooth finish.
