Valmont’s Curved Poles expand the modern look of new Traxxas HQ in McKinney, TX
Los Alamos County was preparing to upgrade their existing structures in White Rock, NM and they were looking for a new pole design that would help make the city stand out from bordering areas. While the customer had already selected an LED light fixture, Valmont’s job was to create a distinctive pole based on their vision.
After receiving a hand-drawn concept sketch from the local representative, Valmont’s engineering and drafting teams came up with 12 potential pole and arm combinations. With this approach, the customer had a wide yet unique variety of design illustrations to choose from, and they were able to easily select the pole design that suited their aesthetic. The selected pole consisted of a 22-foot round tapered steel pole and a one-piece custom decorative arm. For improved roadway safety, the city used Federal Highway Administration approved breakaway couplings to mount the poles, and to match the colors of the newly built library, they chose a dark platinum paint.
By replacing old structures with the new decorative poles and LED fixtures, Valmont and White Rock have successfully introduced an exclusive look to the city’s streetscape. The city has also decided to continue using the pole design as the standard for future projects, which will help strengthen White Rock’s identity even further. While many custom pole projects may seem difficult to realize, Valmont welcomes the challenge to turn a concept into a reality for our customers.
